**Eric Gates from Muthbusters dies**

In sad news, Erik Gates, a regular guest on the discovery channel show Mythbusters has died as result of a freak accident.


Gates was working onsite for his electrical company when he fell through a skylight. He suffered serious blunt trauma to the chest and then died.

Gates guest starred on four episodes of Mythbusters as the "amateur rocket expert". He was very involved in rocketry, even creating his own website called Gates Brother Rocketry.
The official mythbusters twitter account sent out two tweets honoring Gates saying, "Team MB wishes to express our deepest sympathies on the passing of our beloved rocket expert, Erik." and "You were an honorary MythBuster and will be sorely missed."
It was earlier mistakenly reported that one of Erik's brothers, Dirk Gates, had also recently died as well, but that is UNTRUE and deep, sincere apologies and condolences go out to the family and friends of Erik Gates.

Northern Baja California suffered a 5.8 magnitude earthquake Wednesday morning, preceded by two smaller earthquakes.

Originally called a 5.9-earthquake, the 5.8 quake caused buildings to sway 100 miles away in downtown San Diego. According to Lt. Anthony Ray of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.

*NYPD: No bomb inside van abandoned in Times Square*

A report from NYPD about a Van in The Times Square :
'A van parked in the heart of Times Square with tinted windows, no license plates and a bogus law enforcement placard led the police to briefly evacuate the tourist hot spot and send in a bomb squad on the day before the area's New Year's Eve gathering.

No explosive devices were found inside the white van Wednesday afternoon, and the area was reopened to traffic about two hours after the incident began. '

Extra Security in Times Square for New Year's Eve

For two hours on Wednesday, Times Square morphed into a militarized zone as the police swarmed an unoccupied van with blacked out windows and no license plates parked in an area set aside for Thursday’s New Year’s Eve celebration.

''Officials said that nothing harmful was found in the van. But the scare illustrated the challenges for local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as they confront an array of security concerns when revelers flood the streets Thursday to ring in 2010.


To prepare for the festivities, thousands of police officers, including 250 rookies, will descend on Times Square , said Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly.

The police have been in a “heightened security posture,” since 9/11, said Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman, adding that security for each New Year’s celebration has been robust. But, he said, each year the plan is tweaked, “so it’s not totally predictable.”

Mike Leach FIRED at Texas Tech !!

**Texas Tech has fired coach Mike Leach allegations that he mistreated a player.**

Leach was accused of confining Adam James, the son of former NFL running back and current ESPN college football analyst Craig James to an equipment room and an electrical closet over two practice sessions. Adam James was suffering an injury at the time, and was unable to train.

According to reports, Texas Tech handed the termination letter to Mike Leach’s attorney moments before both were due to appear in court on the matter.

Although details of the investigation are thin, it’s presumed that the Texas Tech found the allegations proven, with the school stating that Leach was “terminated with cause effective immediately.”

Leach’s attorney said he planned to file a lawsuit on Leach’s behalf against the school soon as the dismissal was “without merit.”

Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized with Chest Pain

HONOLULU - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was taken to a hospital with chest pains Wednesday and was in serious condition, a Honolulu television station reported.

''Paramedics responded to a call at 2:41 p.m. from the Kahala Hotel and Resort where Limbaugh is vacationing, KITV reported. The station, citing unnamed sources, said the 58-year-old Limbaugh was taken to The Queens Medical Center in Honolulu.


Kit Carson, Limbaugh's chief of staff, said from Milwaukee that he wasn't able to provide any information.

Queens spokeswoman N. Makana Shook said the hospital was unable to comment on the report.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said paramedics took a male of unknown age to an area hospital from the Kahala Hotel and Resort. He said he had no further information.

Limbaugh was seen golfing at Waialae Country Club earlier this week, KITV said. The country club is next to the Kahala hotel.

For privacy reasons, hotel spokeswoman Sheila Donnelly Theroux said she was unable to acknowledge that Limbaugh is a guest.

In 2001, Limbaugh reported he had lost most of his hearing due to an autoimmune inner-ear disease. He had surgery to have an electronic device placed in his skull to restore his hearing.

Two years later Limbaugh acknowledged he was addicted to pain medicine. He blamed the addiction on severe back pain, and took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter rehab. ''
